About the area
In the northern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, on a rocky table-land over the sea shore, the 25-century old town of Kvarna stands next to a forest fault romantically named the Valley of Yellow-Hammers. In the historical heritage chest of the region there are folds of many cultures and civilizations. Here the land is studded with Thracian tombs and fortresses. Two legends connected with the Cape of Kaliakra cross through the ages: one about the 40 maidens who jumped in the unfathomed deep to avoid falling into the enslavers hands, and another about the gold treasure of Lysimachus hidden in a cave of the cape.
Kavarna is the new Bulgarian Mecca of rock music. More than 25 world-famous rock groups have yet played here, among which: "Deep Purple", Ronnie James Dio (twice), "Scorpions", "Cult", "Apocalyptica", "White Snake", "Helloween", "Twisted Sister", W.A.S.P.
In the surroundings, historical ruins of ancient civilizations are shattered on the Cape of Chirakman; nearby are the wet bio-zone Bolata and the virgin and culturally diverse cliffs of Yaylata - kingdom of peonies. The "Kaliakra" Natural Reserve is unique for its sea life and for sheltering more than 20 rare and threatened plants. North is Taukliman (the Birds Harbor): interesting water birds have chosen its picturesque turns to nest here, making it a heaven for bird-watchers and eco tourists alike. The "Black Sea Lodge" is situated 300 meters from the beach. It is a compound of two bodies - А and B, and in between there is an open-air water pool.
