Sozopol wins European village award

Sozopol is the first tourist town along the southern Black Sea coastline to receive the gold seal.Sozopol has received the gold seal distinction for a unique European village, granted by the European Forum of Experts and the Official Representation of Unique Villages in Europe, Sozopol Municipality PR officers reported.
The gold seal will be bestowed on Sozopol's mayor, Panayot Reizi, at a ceremony on December 19 in the Sofia City Art Gallery. Local governors will now stamp all their formal correspondence with the seal. Sozopol received the prize for its historical and cultural development and unique landscape. The town will now be entitled to participate in the Unique European Villages' joint programmes.
So far 15 European towns have won this prize, including Florence and Strasbourg. Bulgarian towns' nominations are carried out by 150 internationally recognised Bulgarian scholars and artists.
